In its second season, the AMC television series, The Walking Dead has picked up a new guest star, and it's someone, or should we say something, that you might not expect. It won't be appearing as a zombie or as a survivor, but rather it will be featured amongst the ruins of the post-apocalyptic zombie wasteland. The Hyundai crossover's screen time came in at around the thirty minute mark during the show's second season premier. As the survivors rummage through vehicles left on an abandoned highway looking for supplies, they find a Hyundai Tucson. One of the group's members, Shane, tries to start the car up, finding the keys in the ignition. When he does, he finds that not only does the vehicle start perfectly, but that it's also transmitting a signal from the emergency broadcast system, which could prove to be a major plot point in the future.

This is the kind of product placement that we really don't mind, and not because it's from Hyundai. Rather, the show's producers worked with the South Korean automaker to show off the vehicle in a way that makes sense in the context of the show itself. Product placement often comes off as being cheesy and off-putting, but this time it was done in a way that was organic to both the plot and setting, so that it doesn't stick out.

Of course, those at Hyundai weren't exactly thrilled at the prospect of the Tucson being covered in dirt and grime during the shot, but it was necessary to have the vehicle fit in with the rest of those on the abandoned highway. After all, it was the realism of this product placement that made it work!
