When you consider all of Hyundai's value, it is not hard to see why many industry experts are now projecting that they will soon be the world's third biggest automaker. Hyundai has come a long way in recent years, and with their current success, it won't be long before this claim goes from being a mere prediction to being reality.
One of the biggest factors behind this claim is how hard Toyota has been hit by the recent disaster in Japan. The Hyundai Kia Automotive Group initially set their annual sales goal for this year at 6.3 million units across the globe with their yearly production capacity expected to exceed 6.6 million. However, in wake of the double disaster that hit Japan, Hyundai has now said that their production numbers may climb as high as seven million this year alone. This would surpass Toyota's production, which, along with Nissan, is expected to scale down their production.
Further evidence of Hyundai's rise in popularity can be seen in March's sales numbers. For the first time in the company's history they outperformed their competitors.
